Teachery Things

Good morning!

Next week we start our unit on Valentine's Day...we also participate in a grant so I needed a meatier topic to add to the love fest. My partner in crime (aka the other Pre-K teacher at my school) and I decided to use Community helpers. My only problem with a unit on community helpers, is that every class seems to do this unit and we are the last class in our school. So once they get to my room they have learned all they ever wanted to know and more about doctors, firefighters, lawyers and Indian chiefs. So we decided to put a Valentine spin on Community Helpers.
We will be talking about florists and bakers, post office workers and delivery people, artists and hairdressers...all the people needed to make Valentine's a special day....OOOOOHHH I forgot jewelers (jk ;P). We will spend one day on each profession and I think it will be a great NEW spin on this classic theme.

bakers and florists - the children will make cookies and package the cookies with different silk flowers

post office
workers and delivery people - they will deliver their flowers and baked good to the others teachers and staff throughout the building.

artists and hairdressers - they will have access to brushes and combs...no scissors and at the art table they will be creating a valentine to mail home to mom and dad.

I will blog later in the week to tell all!

Enjoy the weekend

Infuriating Books

A friend of my sister in law suggested a series of books to me at my birthday party this year. I purchased 2 of the 4 after I dropped Robin off at camp. I proceeded to read the two books in 3 days and went out to buy the third and fourth. I have now completed the third book and as I finished it I really wanted to throw it across the room...or at least put it in the freezer like Joey in that episode of Friends. I hate it when a book turns out so wrong...or a least wrong in my opinion. I am fully invested in the characters and I feel the need to read the fourth book but I am pissed! It's a little like when I finished the third book in the Harry Potter series...I vowed I would never read another word. Of course I finished the series hoping the situation created in the third book would somehow be resolved...it wasn't...damnit! I spent the entire day today in my pj's reading...I had so many other productive things I could have been doing but I read instead. I took a day for myself and did something I almost NEVER get to do. I am refreshed and actually ready to start the work needed in my classroom. It is amazing to me how one day of doing exactly what you want to do and none of the things you need to do can revitalize you entire being and leave you ready for any new challenges.
